Huntsman Cancer Hospital Phase II-B

Huntsman Cancer Foundation seeks support to fund the growth of Huntsman Cancer Hospital in honor of Jon M. and Karen Huntsman. The hospital quickly reached capacity since opening its doors in 2004. As the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer specialty hospital in the Intermountain West, Huntsman Cancer Hospital’s excellent service to the country’s largest geographic area fills a critical need.

Every day, on average, our hospital physicians see 26 new patients, 31 people are admitted to the hospital, 10 surgeries are performed, and 116 patients are treated with radiation therapy. Overall in-patient satisfaction is in the top one percent for in-patient satisfaction scores as measured against 1,300 other hospitals nationwide.

The needed expansion will add 156,000 square feet of new space to better serve cancer patients. The cost of the expansion will be $110,000,000. Construction planning commenced in 2008 and construction will conclude in 2011. Highlights of the expansion include:

• 50 additional private inpatient rooms
• 25 additional outpatient exam rooms
• 4 more operating rooms
• Relocation of the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant and Myeloma Program
• Additional PET/CT scanner, CT scanner, and MRI
• New Breast Care Clinic
• New Center for Investigational Therapeutics
• New Personalized Medicine Clinic

Patient Room Naming

Huntsman Cancer Hospital will expand this year with the groundbreaking for a 156,000 square foot addition to the hospital. With this expansion, fifty new private patient rooms will be added to accommodate the needs of cancer patients. Rooms will feature bay windows, spectacular views, private bath, and attractive, comfortable furnishings. All rooms will include sleeping accommodations for a family member, wireless connectivity and all of the most state-or-the-art medical equipment available. Patient rooms can be named for a gift of $50,000. Gifts may be paid out over time.
